There are many ways to use Skagit Transit's fare box

Dunk and Ride
Good for future fares if you don’t have exact change. While drivers cannot make change, our fare boxes issue a change card for the difference between what you owe and what you deposit in the fare box. For example, if you pay a $1.00 fare with a $5 bill, the fare box will issue a Skagit Transit Change Card for $4.00. The next time you ride Skagit Transit, dunk the card in the slot. The fare box will deduct $1.00 each time you use it, print the dollar value on your card and return it to you.

Skagit Transit Change Cards are good only on Skagit Transit fixed-route buses. The card cannot be redeemed for cash and is not valid on Skagit Transit Dial-A-Ride or Pocket Service.

The new farebox accepts 5¢, 10¢, 25¢, 50¢, $1.00 coin, $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20 bills.

Swipe & Go 1-Day and 31-Day Passes
1-Day Passes: Good for unlimited rides until midnight of that day. When you board the bus for the first time, you will notify the driver that you want a 1-Day Pass. He will push the appropriate button and then notify you that you can now insert your money. Within seconds, a
1-Day pass will appear at the top of the fare box for you to take. When it is time for you to get on the second bus, you will swipe the card along the magnetic reader located at the top right corner of the fare box. You will do this each time you need to ride that day.

31-Day Passes: Good for unlimited rides for 31 consecutive days. The first time you use a 31-Day Pass, remember to first dunk it in the slot on the top left of the fare box with the front of the pass facing you, to activate it. From that point on, the card is swiped when boarding. The fare box will print the dates the pass is valid so you will know when it is time to purchase a new one. You also have the option of purchasing a 31-Day Pass on the bus. You will need to notify the driver of your intent prior to inserting your money.

Skagit Transit 1-Day and 31-Day Passes are good only on Skagit Transit fixed-route buses. The card cannot be redeemed for cash and is not valid on Skagit Transit Dial-A-Ride and Pocket Service.  The 1-Day Pass is not valid on the 80X Bellingham Connector or the 90X Everett Express.

Transfer Card
As always, ask the driver for a transfer when you board the bus. The farebox will print a transfer card for you to take. Transfers are valid on local routes only for 90 minutes in any direction of travel.

Skagit Transit Transfer Cards are good only on Skagit Transit Fixed Route buses. The card cannot be redeemed for cash and is not valid on Skagit Transit Dial-A-Ride, Pocket Service, 80X Bellingham Connector or 90X Everett Express routes.
