Skagit Transit Receives $5M Federal Grant for Future-Proof Facility and Sustainable Operations
📣 Exciting News from Skagit Transit! 📣
We are incredibly proud to announce that Skagit Transit has been awarded a $5 million grant by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). This significant grant will assist us in constructing a new Maintenance, Operations, and Administration (MOA) facility, bolstering our mission to provide reliable, safe, and sustainable public transportation.
This award is a part of a nationwide FTA Bus and Bus Facilities Grant program, which generously dedicated a total of $1.7 billion for transit projects across 46 states and territories.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the 2nd Congressional Delegation: Representative Larsen and Senators Murray and Cantwell, for their unwavering commitment to public transportation and our project. Our thanks also go to our Board for their continuous support.
Together with state funds and local investments, this grant will ensure the sustainability of public transit in Skagit County. Our community will continue to enjoy reliable access to jobs, educational opportunities, social and medical services, and food.
Furthermore, our move to the new facility will relocate our assets out of the flood plain and provide us with much-needed space for growth. Importantly, it will enable us to design and build the infrastructure required for our anticipated zero-emission fleet and support vehicles.
Skagit Transit is committed to serving our community. Together, let's keep Skagit moving forward! 🚌💪
