Community Van Program
COMMUNITY VAN PROGRAM
Skagit Transit is pleased to announce the startup of the Community Van Program! We will be offering a 12 passenger van for agency approved non-profit and government agencies that specifically serve the special needs community. These agencies must have intermittent transportation needs that could be addressed and met by utilizing a Skagit Transit van. Our goal was to offer an alternative for special needs clients whose needs are not currently met by other transportation options such as fixed route or paratransit. The Community Van Program will not only increase community partnerships, but help support a connected community!
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for the Community Van Program, applying agencies must be not for profit and specifically serve the special needs community. Applications must be submitted as well as an initial vetting process to verify eligibility requirements are met. After eligiblity is verified, approved agencies must complete a trip application for each trip the van will take. Routes must be pre-approved by Skagit Transit and include a radius of up to 75 miles (Canada excluded).
Community Van Driver Approval
Each agency approved for Community Van use will need to have several employees become approved van drivers from their agency. Driver's will have to meet eligibility standards and complete a defensive driver training course administered by Skagit Transit. All of the driver application forms and eligibility info can be requested from Skagit Transit.
