Skagit Transit Ride Free Day January 26, 2023

Skagit Transit is pleased to announce it's fare-free all day on Thursday January 26th throughout Skagit county. This fare fee program can help you to get to work, to education programs, to the libraries, museums and more. It's a chance to try transit with no out of pocket cost. It supports the annual Point in Time count also. The Skagit Transit Board of directors approved the fare free day which applies to Skagit Transit's local fixed routes. Route 204 Construction Detour

Masks Optional on Transit

Effective immediately, face masks are optional onboard all Skagit Transit buses and inside Skagit Transit buildings. Passengers wishing to wear masks in these settings are encouraged to bring their own.​


Mask wearing update

Stuff the Bus Food Drive Saturday Feb 26 Cascade Mall Burlington

Helping Hands Food Bank & Skagit Transit are partnering to drive out hunger at the Stuff a Skagit Transit Bus with food drive. Saturday Feb 26 from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Cascade Mall parking lot (near foermer Penney's store) We are calling out to all community members to stop by with donations of non-perishable foods like beans, tuna, peanut butter or household items like laundry soap, cleaners, bathing products to help families in need. This is a drive thru style food drive with a food truck!​

Skagit Transit Route Update Due to the effects of high winds, flooding and mud slides, some Skagit Transit buses are temporarily not operating or are running on alternative routes. Changes from altered routes to regular routes may occur on a route-by route basis. Due to conditions, some routes are operating behind schedule. Masks Required on Skagit Transit

UPDATE- CDC is still requiring masks on Public Transportation even though masks may not be required in other settings. Masks are required for all riders on Skagit Transit Services. That mandate has been extended thru Sept 13th 2021.


Starting June 28 Change or Paper Passes Not Issued on Coaches

On Monday June 28, Skagit Transit will eliminate paper fare card sales and will transition completely to the UMO electronic fare system or exact change cash fare payments. Paper passes in hand will be honored. Also, June 28 the Paratransit Punch Cards will be eliminated. Riders may use a UMO Mobility app & UMO cards to pay fares. Skagit Transit is offering free plastic reloadable reusable UMO cards obtained at Skagit Station 105 S Kincaid St Mt Vernon WA office Mon - Fri through August 31.​

Skagit Gleaners will be opening up its facility during specific hours to assist with the COVID-19 vaccine appointment process. Electronic Fare System Change

Skagit Transit's electronic fare system, TouchPass, is changing its name to UMO. This change will also provide riders with some new capabilities such as trip planning and real time bus arrival information over the next few weeks. For more information, please go the TouchPass page under FARES.

Public Comment Period - Skagit Transit 2020-2022 DBE Goals

Skagit Transit has developed its 2020-2022 Disadvantaged Business Goals for Federal Fiscal Years 2020-2022. The goal for this period is 1%. The goal was developed in accordance with the process described in US DOT's CFR 49 Part 26. Public comments regarding the goal will be accepted for thirty (30) days from the date of this notice. 2019 Proposed Fare Increase

Skagit Transit is proposing to increase the fares charged for the services provided by this agency. Fare increases would affect: Paratransit, Vanpool, and Local Fixed Route Service. This proposal would institute a charge on our Paratransit service among its other changes.

May 6th Service Change

Skagit Transit is supporting the Homeless Connect project being held at Skagit Valley College on 8/25/17 by being FARE FREE on local routes all day. This will help the local members of the homeless community connect to the social services they need.


Sept 2017 Service Changes

Effective Sept 5th 2017, Skagit Transit is making a number of improvements. The County Connector routes (40X, 80X, and 90X) will have new service added to those routes. Several other routes (202, 206, and 615) will have minor schedule changes. You can view the links to each route or you may can also get a copy of the new rider guide on our buses or at customer service. The new rider guide has a green cover and says effective Sept 5th 2017.

June 12th 2017 Service Change

Skagit Transit will have a service change on June 12th affecting routes in Mount Vernon only. Route 202 is a new route that will operate in South Mount Vernon. Routes 204 and 206 will have new routing to improve coverage and reliability. For information on these routes please pick up an ORANGE Supplemental Rider Guide on one of our buses or anywhere you would normally find one of our regular Rider Guides.

Flex Route 185 - Proposed Service Cuts

Skagit Transit staff is recommending to the Board of Directors that service days on Route 185 be reduced from five days per week to three. This change requires a 30-day public comment period. The public comment period has begun and will end on November 17, 2015. The Board of Directors will decide on this matter on November 18th, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Sedro-Woolley City Council Chambers, 325 Metcalf Street, Sedro-Woolley.


Service Changes to Upriver Communities Coming November 2nd

Starting Monday, November 2, 2015, the following service changes will go into effect: (1) Flex Route 8 to Concrete will be replaced by Fixed Route 717 and complementary paratransit service; (2) Route 717 will begin operating on a new schedule and adjusted route; (3) Local fares will be charged on Route 717 - $1 Regular, $0.50 Youth, and $0.50 Reduced or Disabled. One-day and 31-day passes are also available; and (4) Skagit Transit will begin offering 1 additional morning round trip per weekday.​

Skagit Transit will be holding a pubic hearing on its 6-year Transit Development Plan at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Burlington City Hall Council Chambers, 833 South Spruce Street, Burlington, WA 98233.


Draft 6-Year Plan Released for Public Comment

Skagit Transit was able to provide coaches and Operators to assist with the evacuation of residents living nearby. Our thoughts are with those impacted by the blaze.

Study Identifies Possible Locations for New Skagit Transit Base

Skagit Transit has outgrown its current Maintenance, Operations, and Administrative base (MOA) in Burlington. Understanding that space and capacity constraints would hinder organizational growth and service expansion, Skagit Transit applied for and won a planning grant to study the feasibility of expanding in place or relocating to a new site. This report documents the study’s procedures and findings and makes recommendation to the Skagit Transit Board of Directors.
